Watering Flowers

Different flowers and plants in the garden have different watering requirements and it’s worth taking a little time to learn what these are. Some flowers are incredibly drought tolerant and there are often telling signs of this if you look at them closely. Often these plants will have silvery foliage or fine hairs on the leaves, a good example of this is Lambs Ears (Stachys byznatia). Generally flowers with smaller leaves will require less watering such as Alyssum and Cosmos.

Having established the specific watering needs of the flowers how you water them can make a big difference. Always water plants when the sun is not on them, water plants at the root rather than watering the foliage as this can results in damage. Water flowers thoroughly as only applying a small amount can cause further damage to the plant.
