Indoor Bulbs
Growing Indoor bulbs is a wonderful way to brighten up the home on a dull winter day. Try planting bowls of spring flowering bulbs such as Hyacinths, Crocus and Daffodils available from the end of August to October/November.Plant them pots and position them in a sheltered spot such as behind a shed, covering them over with a thick layer of damp bark or peat. When the bulbs start to emerge and the buds are showing, bring the pots inside for an early display of flowers. For more detailed help see our guide on how to force bulbs.
Once the bulbs have flowered remove dead heads by cutting them off just below the flower so that you remove the potential seed pod too, this ensures that the plant puts all its energy back into the bulb and not into making seed. Feed flowering bulbs after flowering with Indoor Liquid Plant Food. Don’t remove the leaves of the plant, as these will continue to make food that is used to bulk up the bulb for next years’ flowers. When the leaves have yellowed and withered, they can be carefully cut away from the bulb.
