Preventing Weeds
Prevent weeds from growing by mulching your beds, borders and veg patches.
Mulching works by stopping the light from reaching the weed seeds and therefore suppressing their germination.
Keep beds and borders weed free by applying a mulch such as Bed & Border Chipped Bark, Landscape Bark or Golden Pine Bark. For smaller borders, containers and ornamental gardens opt for Decorative Mini Bark. Each one helps to suppress garden weeds, improve and retain soil moisture and will also insulate plant roots against extreme cold or heat. For more details read our ‘What is mulching guide’ which shows you have to mulch and when to do it.
In the fruit & veg garden keep weeds down by applying organic Farmyard Manure as a mulch in Spring.
