Weeds
Weeds are generally fast growing and will thrive in pretty much most types of soil. They are not only unsightly but also compete for any available food and water and provide shelter for a number of garden pests and disease. Early spring is the best time to make a start on weed control in the garden. As the weather starts to warm up annual weeds quickly germinate and colonise bare ground, while perennial weeds start into growth.
Hoe off any annual weed seedlings as they appear. Always hoe when the soil is slightly dry and on a sunny day so that the decapitated seedlings will quickly wither. Dig out any perennial weeds making sure to remove all the roots as they can quickly re-grow from a small piece left behind. Tackle perennial weeds such as bindweed, dandelions and docks as soon as they start to grow vigorously.
Use Westland Resolva 24H ready to use weedkiller on persistent weeds such as docks, dandelions and other weeds with deep roots. It contains the effective weed control, Glyphosate that controls the weed right down to the roots and a contact weedkiller that provides great results. This new technology combines the speed of a contact weed killer with the deep down root killing activity of a systemic weedkiller. The results are simply amazing.Resolva 24H works so quickly you can actually see results in 24 hours so you really do know it is working. It moves to the shoots and roots of the weed rapidly, ensuring complete destruction. Always read the labels and use pesticides safely.
Beds & Borders
Keep beds and borders weed free by applying a mulch such as Bed & Border Chipped Bark, Landscape Bark or Golden Pine Bark for large areas or around big established plants, or for smaller borders, containers and ornamental gardens opt for Decorative Mini Bark. Each one helps to suppress garden weeds, improve and retain soil moisture and will also insulate plant roots against extreme cold or heat.
Fruit & Veg Garden
In the fruit & veg garden keep weeds down by applying organic Farmyard manure as a mulch in Spring.
Lawns
Lawn weeds can be a major problem taking over any areas of bare soil. Most of them are broadleaved weeds: plants other than grass that grow in the lawn.
You can also get coarse grasses that grow in tough clumps in the lawn. These will not be controlled by lawn weed killers and should be cut through right to the roots with a sharp knife before mowing. If this is done on a regular basis it will gradually weaken the tough clumps until they die.
To tackle occasional lawn weeds use Resolva Lawn Weed Killer. This ready-to-use spray can be directed straight onto common weeds such as buttercup, daisy, dandelion and clover. It controls weeds without harming your lawn.
Some lawn weeds can be removed manually with a daisy grubber or weeding tool. It is very important to remove all the root system of each weed otherwise new plants will simply grow back from each of the pieces left behind.
Large areas of weedy and mossy lawns may be treated with Lawn Feed, Weed & Moss Killer. This will boost the lawn and tackle weeds and moss. Apply with a dedicated lawn spreader for fast and accurate results or use the handheld spreader pack to treat lawn areas up to 100m2.
Always read the labels and use pesticides safely.
