Christmas Indoor Plant Care

Keep your favourite Christmas Indoor Plants looking great through the festive period by following our top tips:

Poinsettia
A favourite at Christmas time, Poinsettia are also available with lime green or white bracts but the classic red variety is by far the most popular still. Poinsettia need a light position away from direct sun. Ideally kept at a constant temperature and away from draughts, water regularly allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering. Be careful not to get water on bracts. Feed every couple of weeks using Westland Indoor Plant Food to keep Poinsettias flowering well.

Christmas Cacti
Christmas Cacti are hugely popular and can be kept successfully for a great many years if treated correctly. Plants should be kept in a bright spot but out of direct sunlight. Water regularly allowing the soil to dry a little between watering. Leaves should also be misted once or twice a week. Christmas cacti should be fed using Westland Cacti Feed.

Gerbera
With their stunning daisy flowers Gerberas are popular indoor plants and can often be found around Christmas time. Plants thrive in sunny position with the soil being allowed to dry out a little between watering. Mist foliage weekly and feed every 2 weeks whist flowering using Westland Indoor Plant Food.

Hyacinths
The highly distinctive smell of hyacinths can typify Christmas for those who love these flowers. You can force your own hyacinths by planting prepared bulbs available in Garden Centres in September, alternatively by pre-planted displays in the run up to Christmas. The key to keeping your display fresh is to keep them in a cool and bright position in the house. Flowers are likely to fade if they are kept in a hotter room.
