How to grow herbs

There’s nothing nicer than growing your own fresh herbs to add to summer salads and stir-fries.

Herbs are very easy to grow from seed, especially in the summer when they are quick to germinate.

Grow in pots in the garden or directly in the soil or choose the Unwins Kitchen Garden Herb Kit for great results.

It contains everything you need to grow a healthy crop of basil, parsley, coriander and chives.

It’s perfect for summer and would make a great gift.

Step 1

Unpack the Unwins Kitchen Garden Herb Kit.

It contains flowerpots, seed compost and an attractive wooden windowsill planter.

Step 2

Carefully fill each of the flowerpots with the compost. and firm down gently. Reserve a small amount to cover the seeds after sowing

Step 3

Sow the seeds onto the compost surface.

Spread them out evenly so that they cover the whole area. This will provide a good crop of herbs in each pot.

Cover over with a thin layer of reserved compost

Step 4

Place the pots inside the windowsill planter.

Label each pot and water gently with tepid water.

Keep in a warm, light place for the seeds to germinate.

Harvest individual leaves when they are large enough to handle.
