Choosing your Christmas tree
There are several varieties of Christmas Trees available to buy in shops and garden centres. Pick one that meets your needs:
Norway Spruce
This type of tree is the traditional choice with the shape and scent of Christmas. Norway Spruce have strong branches and are therefore good for decorating but needle retention is not as good as other species and so needs to be kept outside or cooler room.
Nordman Fir
One of the most popular varieties, these trees are the perfect Christmas tree shape. Again they have strong branches but needles are softer than with the Norway Spruce and needle drop is relatively low, however these tree can be wide meaning lot of space needed.
Fraser Fir
Hugely popular in American and becoming more so here due to its dense, soft blue-green foliage. The firm branches make decorating easier and proper care will ensure low needle drop and a fresh citrus fragrance.
Noble Fir
Often considered to be the perfect Christmas tree, they have thick, soft blue-green needles good retention and beautiful fragrance.
Blue Spruce
A low drop tree which is silver-blue in colour and has a wonderful ‘Christmassy’ smell and nice shape. Strong branches make it an idea Christmas tree, perfect for decorating.
Scots Pine
Very fast growing and widely found throughout Northern Europe and Asia. Scots Pines have fantastic needle retention and a wonderful pine scent.
