How to Grow Sweet Peas

Sweet Peas are easy to grow from seed and provide a succession beautifully scented flowers throughout the summer.

For best results sow in a cool greenhouse. Fill small flowerpots with John Innes Seed Sowing Compost

Do not soak or chit the seeds before sowing. Simply make several evenly spaced holes in the compost using a dibber about 1-2cm deep and sow a single seed into each hole.

Water well and keep the pots of seedlings at a constant temperature of 10-15oc. Keep the compost moist but not overwet.

When the seedlings have formed their first true pair of leaves, pinch out the growing tip to encourage bushier plants. Over winter autumn-sown seedlings in a cloche or cold frame for the winter. Plant out established seedlings in March and April. Provide supports such as canes, a wigwam or sweet pea netting.
