My established Hydrangea paniculata appears to be healthy, but it has barely flowered for the last few years. What can I do to make it flower profusely again?
It sounds as though your Hydrangea has been making vegetative growth at the expense of flowers. You need to encourage it to initiate the production of flowers. Give it a real tonic with a treatment of Sulphate of Potash. This is a fast acting plant food that has a high potassium content to encourage flower formation. It improves the colour of the flowers and stimulates better blooms too. Sulphate of Potash can be applied from early spring to November as a base dressing before sowing or planting. It can also be used as a top dressing, apply in early spring, distribute it evenly around the plants. Potash also helps strengthen plants and makes them resistant to adverse weather and diseases.
