Made from the traditional recipe of sterilised loam, peat and horticultural grit with added nutrients. The compost is ideal when repotting mature plants such as shrubs, in large containers. The addition of John Innes (soil based compost) enhances moisture retention reducing the risk of plants drying out as well as having a regulated availability of nutrients, producing more controlled growth. The addition of John Innes gives plants a heavy weight base making it the perfect choice for tall, top-heavy plants.
Uses:
Specially designed with a reduced peat mix for re-potting mature plants such as shrubs, in large containers. Also suitable for hanging baskets or troughs giving excellent results with Chrysanthemums and large house plants.
Feeding:
The compost is supplied with enough nutrients to meet plant requirements for the first 4-5 weeks. Thereafter, for best results commence feeding with Westland Feed-all Plant Food.
Sizes:
10L
30L
Nutrient Content & pH:
The compost contains a balanced fertiliser complete with trace elements and has a pH of 6.0-7.0.
What can I use to plant a fruit tree in a container?
You need to choose a compost that is rich in the right nutrients to support the growth and cropping of your tree. Choose a loam-based compost to give the container stability and to ensure good drainage. John Innes No 3 has high levels of balanced nutrients for superior plant growth and would be a good choice for most containerised fruit trees. Weight the bottom down with gravel and then add a layer of John Innes No 3 before positioning your plant into the bottom. Keep well watered especially when the fruit is developing and feed with a suitable plant food for the very best results.
