This advanced nutrient-rich compost is an ideal general-purpose compost for most young plants, providing the correct growing conditions for optimum growth. It contains loam (John Innes), formulated to hold water and nutrients for longer, protecting plants from under or over-feeding by releasing nutrients when needed. Perlite has also been added to improve the compost structure and allow adequate air movement around the roots. Rhododendron, Azalea and Camellia Compost with added John Innes is also much easier to rewet after drying and remains moist for longer after watering.
Our revolutionary ingredient West+ is one of the most significant developments in growing media since the 1950's. Adding West+ to our premium compost range has produced our best ever formula:

Can I use the Multi-Purpose with added John Innes compost for my containerised Rhododendrons?
No, it is too alkaline to support the healthy growth of acid loving plants. The good news is that Westland has expanded the range of this highly successful, quality compost to include a new Rhododendron, Azalea and Camellia Compost with added John Innes. This compost is ideal for your Rhododendrons and provides all the performance benefits of this range of composts with the addition of a unique fertiliser that acidifies the soil for ericaceous plants. You can confidently use this new blend to plant new containers of Rhododendrons or to top-dress existing plants.
The compost also contains the new, revolutionary West+ which makes the compost much freer to drain and easier to rewet. The results are healthy plant roots and stronger plants that will flower more readily. The compost is also lighter than conventional mixes, so it is easier to handle and lift.
