Sowing Indoors
- Sow individually in small pots of moist seed compost lightly covering the seeds
- Place in gentle warmth 15-20°C (60-70°F)
Planting Out
- Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out to their flowering positions about 45cm (18in) apart from May onwards
Sowing Outdoors
- Sow seeds 2cm (1in) deep in pre-watered soill about 45cm (18in) apart in a row or in groups
- Keep the soil moist until seedlings are well established
- Thin out if seedlings appear to be overcrowded
Growing Tips
- Plant in rows to divide or screen areas of the garden with a low ‘hedge’ or multi-branched sunflowers
- Sunflower seeds are edible and are delicious in a wide range of dishes
