How to Grow Marigolds

A true gardener’s favourite, Marigolds traditionally provide sunshine colour in shades of yellow, gold and orange.

For masses of flowers, try French Marigold ‘Naughty Marietta’, or for colour variety try our African Marigold selection ‘Crackerjack, Kilimanjaro and Perfection Yellow.’

When to Sow

Sow marigold seeds from February to March

How to Sow

Sow in Gro-Sure Seed & Cutting Compost.

Harden off throughout May and plant out once all risk of frost has passed.

Marigolds thrive best in full sun.


To boost flowering feed with Gro-Sure All Purpose Plant Food or Gro-Sure 6 Month Slow Release Plant Food and dead head regularly.

Protect from slug damage using Growing Success Advanced Slug Killer.

Marigolds are also excellent for companion planting with tomatoes, which is a traditional method of natural pest control to prevent whitefly from infecting your tomato plants.
