Weed, noun (Plant)
- Any plant that grows wild and profusely, especially one that grows among cultivated plants, depriving them of space, food, etc
Weeds are simply plants that are growing where they are not wanted. They are generally plants that are fast growing and thrive in most types of soil.
Not only are they unsightly, but they also compete for any available food and water and provide shelter for a number of garden pests and disease.
Early spring is the best time to make a start on weed control in the garden. As the weather starts to warm up, annual weeds quickly germinate and colonise bare soil, while perennial weeds will start to grow after being dormant for the winter.
