Garden birds hunger threat at critical time of year!

Experts are urging householders to continue feeding garden birds, due to a cold start to the spring.
The cold weather is likely to lead to a shortage of the insects and plants that normally appear at this time of year and form a sizable chunk of a bird’s natural diet. This shortage could leave many garden birds hungry at a critical time – while they try to breed and rear young.
Households are recommended to supplement the natural diet of the birds in their garden with a bird food that’s suitable for adult birds and chicks. Peckish Daily Goodness Nuggets are a great choice, as they are packed with high energy suet, seeds and mealworms that are perfect for little beaks. It also contains the unique Calvita vitamin and mineral supplement which assists with healthy egg shell production and the formation of strong beaks and bones.
Matt Brash, Specialist Celebrity Wildlife and Zoo Vet said: “We’ve had a rollercoaster ride of changeable weather in the UK and Ireland this spring, which has seen snow and freezing conditions overnight. This could prevent insects, such as beetles, caterpillars and grubs from emerging out of hibernation. It could also mean vegetation that birds would normally feed from at this time of year has not grown.
“With many bird populations already decreasing at a steady rate, it’s vital that during this important breeding season, birds are as healthy as possible and young chicks have a good, steady supply of food.”
