FOR BEST WEED FREE RESULTS
Lay a perforated plastic or fabric membrane under the bark. Cut an X shaped hole in the membrane and plant shrubs and flowers into the planting hole. Cover the membrane and under the plant canopy with bark chips.
SMALL BORDERS 2.5-5CM DEEP
- Remove all weeds and debris.
- Spread bark 2.5 – 5 cm deep.
- Be sure to cover the area well, underneath every plant canopy and root area.
CONTAINERS & POTS 3-5CM DEEP
- Spread a 3 – 5 cm layer of bark over the top of compost or soil. This will provide important thermal insulation, reduce water loss and make the pots easier to water.
AFTERCARE
- Remove any annual weeds as they appear.
- To maintain a good bark layer, replenish the area with fresh bark annually.
- Check the compost underneath is fresh and has not formed a crusted salt layer, replace if necessary.
- Top up the bark layer with fresh bark to maintain an insulating layer.
