April gardening

Spring has now definitely arrived! It’s time to inject some colour in your garden by potting up spring containers, borders and hanging baskets with plants and flowers. Vegetables can also start to be transplanted outside, just watch out for frosts! Now is also the time to start spring lawn treatments.

Lawn Care

Use a triple action product like Aftercut All in One to combat weeds and moss. Now is also a great time to tackle bare patches and to sow a new lawn. Gro-Sure Smart Seed is the UK’s best-selling lawn seed and is guaranteed to grow.

TOP TIP – If you’re worried about using chemicals, consider using Westland Safe Lawn which is 100% natural and safe for children and pets.

Flowers and containers

Sow hardy annuals outside once all risk of frost has passed. Get ready to buy spring bedding plants like Geraniums, Petunias, Busy Lizzies and Zinnias later on this month to create colourful containers and hanging baskets. Use a compost specifically designed for pots and containers to stop them drying out later in the season.

TOP TIP – Smarten up beds and borders and prevent weeds by using Gro-Sure Smart Ground Cover as a protective mulch.

Fruit and Vegetables

It’s all go in the veggie plot this month! Sow Courgettes outside. Re-pot Chillies, Peppers and Tomatoes and get ready to put them outside next month. Start off cucumbers seeds inside or in the greenhouse. Plant Strawberries outside in a sunny spot once it warms up a bit. Start harvesting Asparagus plants.

TOP TIP – Use a compost which is specifically designed for seed sowing like Gro-Sure Seed and Cutting Compost
